With the free play properly adjusted, there should be 1/8" space between the fingers and bearing. This as about 1" of free play at the face of the pedal.

Hi,
There are supposed to be return springs on the clutch pedal, and brake pedals, that hold them up against the edge of the platform. The springs are under the platform.
If the spring on the clutch pedal is gone, the pedal can go down until the throwout bearing is rubbing on the pressure plate fingers.
Be sure the springs are there.
Below is a listing at TM Tractor for a new spring. :)

Im gonna check for the springs, it's working great now. Wish I'd thought to check the fingers before I changed the pedal rod,
because on these older 48s it's just as easy to adjust the fingers. Thanks everyone.
