Questions restoring a '62 Cub

Postby LittleJohn » Mon Jul 29, 2019 6:00 pm

I have a CUB that was sitting out in the elements for 14 years. Here are my Questions ?

After I drained the old oil, should I clean it out with Kerosene ?
I drained the transmission fluid. It was mostly oil. again, do I use kerosene before refilling with transmission fluid ? Do they still make IH HY-TRAN FLUID ? Can't find it.
Thanks, LittleJohn

Hy-Tran compatibles are available at farm stores. I use Traveler brand.( From Tractor Supply?) It says Hy-Tran on it.

Flushing with kero suits a visible sludge ,or debris, or rusty previous fluid drain.
If the gears and places fluid rested look good ,you don't have to flush. But can if you desire.
Hy-Tran suspends water pretty good so if you have a little in there you should be alright.
Just don't force an issue if below freezing and you get resistance on something.

Prime the oil system before cranking the engine. Check your oil pressure at start up. It takes a moment or two-ish to register sometimes..

Hy-Tran is still available from Case/IH dealers. You can flush the tranny with kerosene but not the engine.
