Well it’s been modified at the least. The pic radioguy posted looks like that just because it’s a closeup. The mcl front rockshaft is smaller in diameter than a hysdraulic rockshaft but not by much

Hi,
If you need pics of the Cub 22 mower mounted on a Cub, here are pics from TM Tractor. :)

http://www.tmtractor.com/tm-tractor/gim/cub22_001.htm

In the first pic, the top of the cast part that is partly red, with the 2 holes for the pins that hold the cutter bar on, should be about level with the level ground, when the mower is fully raised.
It is called the inner shoe hinge in the parts manual.

There should be some slack in the chain when the mower is down on level ground, and the lift lever is pulled all the way to the rear. :)

Thanks Glen, I'll be sure and double check that info about the chain and linkage.

To All: Here are the pics of the fwd rock shaft from the left and right side.

From the pic that Radioguy41 posted, it appears that I have something different than the rest of you out there on the left side. The right side looks just like every other pic on the internet, and the manual. Was this rock shaft taken off a TC Hyd system and just simply bolted in to place by the PO? I’m not sure, but it appears that I was correct to rotate the rockshaft 180 degrees so it look more like a letter “V” than like a letter “A” and then attach the rod to the hole nearest to the gas tank so that the spring helps me rather than fights against me. Problem solved, except….the rod bent.

With thousands of non-TC Cubs out there, and plenty of Cub 22 mowers attached to them, I find it hard to believe that I’m the only guy with this problem. The only thing I can guess at is the PO bent the rod during operation ( used it as a pole vault maybe ? ) and used the hose clamp to hide the fact that it had “issues” while it was being shown for sale to prospective buyers ( like me ). Buyer Beware.

Moving forward,…I have contacted the local steel yard and they will make be a new rod any thickness I want to my specs. Now if I can just dig out one of those antique old comic books, flip to the back page and find an old “Charles Atlas Muscle Building advertisement, so I can build the muscles needed to use the MCL ( Master Control Lever ) . Perhaps it is time to consider a rotary mower or adding a TC Hyd system to my Cub.
Thanks all, I’m done here on this posting, and moving on with my Cub.

Next project is to completely rewire the Cub. Some of you might notice the green garden hose using as a wire loom on the right side hanging down. And that coil is blocking my hand getting to the fuel bowl shut off lever.

Need to see the mounting brackets. Looks completely homemade to me. Not what you wanted to hear, I’m sure. I’d place an ad for original one. Someone here will have one.

Edit: I may be wrong, but looks like someone took the turning bracket for a 151 plow and modified it and welded it to the rod

The homemade rockshaft looks like it might work better if it was swapped end-for-end.

If you intend to use implements other than the sickle bar mower, this may be your best solution.
