Went and picked up the tractor before the rain and cold comes in Saturday. Backed into the low spot and we pushed it on the trailer.

Shane that looks like an amazing find and an awesome project! If I ever own another Cub, it will be a red 70s model!

It really is a nice looking tractor, I hope it runs as good as it looks. I'm still not sure why I bought it, I have no where to put it in the shed. That's why it's sitting on the trailer in front of the shop. Shop has a 140 in it and a few other things I have to walk around to get to my toolbox

Pulled the oil plug this morning. Oil looks good, was glad to not see any water.

The oil filter drain wasn’t clogged either.

I knew I saved those $.69 oil filters from TSC for a reason.

Pulled the oil cup off the air breather and it looked good too. Changed it anyhow. I like to know what I have.

Now to remove the fuel bowl and carb and clean them. Also file the points, install battery, add oil and prime the oil pump, and make an oil filter gasket before trying to light it off. Hopefully I can get all that done sometime next week.

The ground wire looks original, clamp isn’t though.

Carb needs a good cleaning as does the fuel bowl. The choke was stuck, I can’t wait to see what the inside looks like and if the idle tube is screwed in the top or the bottom

The inside of the gas tank looks great to be 45 years old. Primed the oil pump and made sure it turns over, once the fuel system is clean and I file the points it should be ready to run.

Shane,
I'm assuming you meant the oil pump.

Oops, yes I did mean oil pump. Thanks for pointing that out. Took almost half a quart, glad I didn’t try to start it without doing it.

Got the carb apart and soaking. It actually looked better on the inside than I thought it would and the idle tube is still intact.

I know I could soak the glass fuel bowl in the carb stuff but it's full at the moment and oven cleaner only takes a couple minutes to make them shiny. Works great on glass light lenses as well, just be careful to use good ventilation and not get it on you.

Good tip and reminder about using oven cleaner for the glass--as well as the safety precautions. Looking forward to hearing about the start-up!

I think I did alright on this one. Now that it’s running I need to wash it and can drive it in the shop at work and get it right.
