You're right Jim. Guess I'll have to air a tire up or let a little out to get it even for re-entry.

It’s got a nice original underslung exhaust. I used to be good friends with a guy who owned a muffler shop I could get him to make a few but he went crazy and not sure where he’s even at now.

Or make the air or whatever adjustments so you can get the wedges in before splitting. Then the two halves won't try to twist out of line while you are separating.

This touch control has been leaking for a while it appears. The rubber boot is mostly missing and probably got dust in there and messed the oring up like our 140 was doing.

I can't see ordering a special oring for $6 and change plus shipping so I did what I did to the 140 when I had it apart and it's been working fine. I cut a new oring groove beside the other one and put an oring I had in an oring kit on it. The original one is special and measures .500" X .750" X .156" (IH calls out .482" ID X .153") and I can't find one other than IH or TM. I also had a rubber boot left over from the 140 so I cut the big part off and slid it on.

Pretty sure this is the only Cub steering box I’ve ever opened up that didn’t have water in it. The transmission is the same way, full and clean.

If you have the steering wheel off the steering shaft slide a O ring down the shaft 1/2" from the steering box. That will divert the water off the shaft before it can get to the shaft seal.

the trick with the shaft boot is what I do also, the IH boot is like $25, steiner boot is $8, cut it off and it looks and works fine, I have looked for the special oring and cannot find it anywhere, IH only, tried manufacturers and they could not supply it either, good idea with the extra groove, just curious did you look down the bore 1st to see if it makes a difference where that oring sits being moved?

I did not look down the bore, I put it as close to the front of the other groove as I could. That’s the same thing I did with the 140 and it’s been fine.

I think another upside to the extra oring is it should take more of the debris getting to the factory oring making it last longer

Rear main is done and tractor is back together. Clutch and everything looked great and the front transmission seal wasn’t leaking either.

Think I found the best place to start figuring out why this Cub isn’t charging.

I agree! I have another one on a spare generator I'm gonna see if it's any good.

Looks like someone slobbered that with navel jelly. Agree, time for a new one.
