When I drained the coolant there was a 5/8” bolt being used for the drain plug. I dropped the screw for the points and found the drain plug for the coolant.

Got the hood and grill back on. Grill screen looks better white, I think. Headlights are tight now.

Wow. Just painting that grill made quite a difference! Lucky you on the drain plug!

Hi,
Looks like good work in your pics. :)

I guess you have put the hood on again. I wondered if it fits ok with the exhaust pipe clamp at the manifold turned like it is.
Usually on the Cubs with the round front hood, the clamp needs to be turned 1/4 turn from where yours is, so the bolts are at the top and bottom of the clamp, so the clamp doesn't hit the hood.

Below is a page from the 1965 Cub and LoBoy operator's manual, showing with the hood off, it looks like the clamp is turned with the bolts at the top and bottom. It looks like a square front Cub in the pic.

This is the quietest cub transmission I’ve ever had. The video actually makes it louder than it really is.

seeing all of the original parts on this tractor lead me to believe its a low-hour machine. I'm also convinced that it could have originally been ordered red from the factory. IH did use yellow primer in that time period. The seat cushions are original and reflect how well someone cared for the tractor. I think the grill screen would have originally been painted white regardless of red or yellow. I think the black grills came along when the longstripe (NEW IH CUB) was introduced.

I have to agree with you. The only yellow paint I have found on this tractor is on the carb. There's a little primer in a few places like the battery box, inside of the grill, etc. When I was grinding and welding on the hood yesterday it was red all the way to metal. Also the decals have been on a while and I think they are original.

Also I don't think it's been used a whole lot either, it really is in good shape. May be a keeper!

It's really turning out to be a nice machine!

I'd say "CONGRATS" for it being original red. Yellow is for lawn mowers! (And they should have all been red too.....)

Shane, you should talk to the guy who bought it at auction. Might could find the original owner..........

There's also a HOW TO where you cut the serrated strip out, weld in a new strip, then cut the little angles with a dremel, or similar, tool. A friend did 2 of mine that way.

Nice job, Shane!
