it happened again

Postby cubbrian » Sat Jan 11, 2020 8:48 pm

A couple years ago i was looking at another tractor. Sarah told me i had to sell a tractor if i wanted to buy another. So I sold a 1957 cub and bought a Farmall Super MTA. She was not amused since the new tractor was so much bigger. Well on New Years Day I brought home a 1964 Farmall 706 gas. To say she was displeased would be an understatement. Anyway, she saw it and since it looks better than what she thought, she is ok with it. Now the hard part, getting rid of another tractor. Such a sad day.

Tell spouse that you can't own too many tractors.

You need something to brag about at family reunions. At least I do. When a family member brags about owning something neat, new, and/or expensive, I respond by telling the city slickers that I own 5 tractors.
I have an excuse. CRS.

That is close to my problem. I bought a fast hitch 184 planter from a guy a little north of Boss Hog. The guy also had a really nice fast hitch York rake with gage wheels. Super sweet. Well when we picked upon the planter I told her I was buying the rake. Her words “you have one” my words “I’ll sell the fast hitch Leinbach rake”. That was 9 months ago. Still have both rakes. She still keeps asking me about selling one of the rakes, but not as much as she used to. Good luck with your dilemma, Brian! She’ll eventually stop.

My Dad, and I kept our tractors in the same pole barn for years before he passed. My Mom would go out and see a new one and ask whose it is, He would say its TJ's my my ex wife would ask I would say its Pop's or we were fixing it for someone. Now that Pop's gone I can't do it anymore. I am trying to downsize the collection now and its hard to let some of them go but I think I have it figured out, it's not easy most all of my tractors were passed down to me by friends and family who aren't here any more. I am glad I am not the only one who has had to stretch the truth about a tractor purchase.

As for Paula and I, she had given me the green light for awhile so now I am at 6 tractors but she did grimace a little with the last one till I showed her what a deal it was. I think that's the key.

I’m a lucky man. My wife and I plan to move to our farm when we retire and run a small market garden. I’m up to 3 cubs 2 Kubota’s and a David Brown. My wife tolerates and actually encourages my hobby/addiction. She especially likes the cubs because they are cute and fun to drive. I lucked into a truck load of planter and fertilizer distributor parts this weekend. As long as I have the money and it’s worth more than I paid for it she is ok with it. I’m sure there is a limit to her tolerance and pretty sure I’ll find it some day

You just need to put her name on one of those cubs, and "let" her take care of it. We truly love those things we are responsible for!! Bring her down to DSCF next month, and you will both have a good time with other cub enthusiasts. I'm in Chapel Hill, and go down every year...you are both welcome to join me for the ride!! :{_}:

Hi dale you might not recognize my user name but this is Mike Tedder also a chapter 37 member. We talked at the chapter cubfest this past summer. We would love to attend one of the upcoming cubfest but full time jobs and a part time farm consume most of our time. I think I’ll continue to look after the cubs and let my better half use one when she wants to. She is much more at home in the garden than the shop. No need to try and change things that might upset the balance of the universe

Selling one to buy one has become a matter of fiscal necessity for me. I'm at a point now I don't own anything I'd want to sell so my numbers will stay constant for a while!

It would be a hard one to part with, but the good thing is the MTA is pretty desirable.....
