Alternative to Firestone/Goodyear Rear Turf Tire
My 1958 Loboy has a slow leak in one rear tire and the diamond tread 8-24 Firestone tires are badly cracked/dry-rotted. I see that Miller Tire commands a lofty premium for similar turf tires (but with a larger diamond pattern). I'm considering moving up to a 9.5-24. Has anyone tried the Carlisle Turf Pro tire on a Cub? The tread is a more modern lawn mower style tread. I can''t seem to find an actual photo of this tire in this size other than stock photos of a smaller size. I have ladder chains and realize I may have to add some links to get them to fit the larger tire, but don't want R1 ag tread as I'll have to buy another set of chains (or heavily modify the ones I have with links between the ladder rungs).

Re: Alternative to Firestone/Goodyear Rear Turf Tire
I have used Carlisle's on two cubs and am very happy with how it treats the grass and overall traction. It is also my favorite look for the turf tires.
I also have the one cub with used diamond pattern Firestones and think it has better (~10-15%) traction but is a little harder on the turf. Either one would be great for cutting grass and general towing and snow plowing with chains.

Could you post a photo or two so I can see how it looks?

Re: Alternative to Firestone/Goodyear Rear Turf Tire
I had to stop by the cubs home today and got some pictures of the turf tires in my inventory.
Personally, I like Carlisle look the best and good overall performance. expensive. The only tires I have purchased new for dress-up tractors
The Firestone cross pattern I think gives a very good balance of saving the turf and traction. It is harder on the turf than the Carlisles or the Goodyear. I do plan on buying these on the next work tractor that needs tires.
I have these Goodyears diamonds on most of my cubs with turf tires. I think these are the first to spin but easy on the turf.
All take chains well and I have used them in snow and mud with chains.
My ground is flood plain with a lot of soft spots and sandy areas and the ag tires do a number on the grass.
I hope this helps with your decision.

Re: Alternative to Firestone/Goodyear Rear Turf Tire
Thank you! This is exactly the comparison I was looking for. I have the Goodyear style on right now. I was curious how round or flat the ground contact patch was with the Carlisles. This answers the mail, for sure!

Got my Carlisle Turf Pro 9.5X24 tires mounted yesterday. I really like how they look, like giant modern lawn mower tires.

Pete’s Tire Barn is good about waving shipping if they can get it close to you. Not a to your door delivery but to another tire dealer or one of their satellite location.

So this is the end of the low rider days, or the Michigan tractor lean trend you started last week?

I like it with the regular size tires better than the low rider version.

Re: Alternative to Firestone/Goodyear Rear Turf Tire
To bad we’re not closer I’ve got 2- 9.5 x 24 Goodyear turf tread used but good I’d part with for at least half the price of new, probably less.
