Meet Pearl 1947 Cub
Pearl joined us 2 weeks ago. 1947 s/n 1210. She needs a lot of work. May take quite a while on this one. Looks like she's gotta be split. I see thing in the hand hole I don't like at all.

Re: Meet Pearl 1947 Cub
You are about 4 1/2 hours from my CubFest the end of May. If you bring Pearl along we may be able to help you out. Splitting a Cub is nothing at a CubFest since you have help to go along with it if you need it.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Meet Pearl 1947 Cub
Congratulations on the Circle Cub! If you can wait 'til May, take Barnyard's advice and bring her to the Barnyard Bash. Should be able to get lots of help there. Find out what parts you may need ahead of time, get 'em ordered and bring them along.
If you're going to replace the throw out bearing, then when it arrives, throw in a ziploc slothered with some cheap grease and let it marinate until it's time to put it in.
Thanks for sharing a pic.

Re: Meet Pearl 1947 Cub
I'd love to come, and I will if I can swing it. She needs a lot of work. Gonna try my best!
Actually got a 52 in the same deal. They came from a member who as life would have it had priority changes. He's a great guy and I thank him. I could tell it was difficult for him to let them go. As I told him there will be others, and hopefully I'll get to work with him at some point since he lives so close by.

Looking at that shaft, what's everyone's opinion? Look pretty scored.
Thanks

Re: Meet Pearl 1947 Cub
In your 2nd photo, I'm not sure just what I'm looking at. Is that view looking straight up through the handhole? If so, what is the bracket on the left side in the foreground? Shouldn't I be looking at the zerk fitting for the TOB?

Picture was taken straight up through the hand hole. Yep, no sign of grease fitting. If you look close between the throw out bearing and fingers you can see the scoring on the shaft.

Re: Meet Pearl 1947 Cub
Hmmm...not sure there is anything wrong with the shaft. Doing a quick Google search here is a link to a new shaft from Steiner. The area just after the end of the splined area has a "shoulder" I think.

And this used one shows that the shafts do get rough and rusty...normal.

Re: Meet Pearl 1947 Cub
Hi,
Below is a page from the 1947 Cub operator's manual showing the clutch pedal free play adjustment, and the clutch in the lower pic. You can see the curve of the throwout bearing holder in the lower pic.
http://farmallcub.com/rudi_cub/www.clea ... age-40.jpg
I don't know if they were actually built the way the pic shows. Probably someone that owns one knows. I don't have one with that style clutch adjustment to look at.
Below are pics from TM Tractor of the holder. You can see the curve in the bottom pic.
http://www.tmtractor.com/tm-tractor/gcl/yoke1_001.htm
The holder is different above serial number 32228.

Re: Meet Pearl 1947 Cub
Yeah something isn't right there. The TOB is totally trash I believe. I can't get up under there good to see (not as young as I used to be), because of the mower, and I can't take it off right now. I should be seeing this.

Re: Meet Pearl 1947 Cub
Steve, the last pic he posted is not of Pearl.
Ctltmp, the last pic is not what you should be seeing. That’s the later cub TO bearing holder. 1947 cub came with the earlier holder as pictured in your second pic.
Edit: there’s a reason why the design was changed. The earlier versions are a pain in the butt!

I wasn't aware of that, Thomas. Learn something new every day here. I guess I'll have to do some more research.

If something is wrong with your throwout bearing, I'm not seeing it. It does look out of adjustment.
