Farmall Cub

Hi,
ctltmp your pic you posted today is of the newer style throwout bearing holder, used above serial number 32229, with the external free play adjustment.

Below are pics from TM Tractor of a new one. The bottom left pic on the page shows what you see in your pic today.

The holders below 32229 are different. In my post on page 1 of this post, with the page from the operator's manual, it shows the drawing of the clutch in the bottom pic. The holder is installed with the bottom of the curve to the rear. Looking straight up from the hand hole, you can see the grease fitting, but that might not be how they actually are.

I have to believe that it's installed backwards from to drawing. If there's no visible grease fitting then it must be on top.

To be clear this is what I have.




The other picture was only an example of what I'm used to seeing.

If I remember correctly, you can’t see or grease the zerk with these hangers installed. The design did not last long

Ugh. Maybe some that has this old style will chime in. Why have a grease zerk with no access to it. That's kind of silly.

I had a 1947, the grease fitting can't fit towards the bottom. There wasn't room.

Edit: In fact I’m wondering if they originally came with a zerk. Would’ve made more sense to just come prelubed

The throwout bearing itself never changed across all years of Cub production. IH drawings of the early style show the grease fitting at the bottom. I have to wonder if the holder in Shane's picture is an incorrect reproduction.

I don't know if it's a repo or not, it had some work done before when I got it for sure with an automotive bearing welded on the original bearing.

Thanks for posting pics Shane, with the throwout bearing in the holder. It looks like it covers where the grease fitting is on the throwout bearing, if the fitting was facing down.

I think the holder looks the same as TM Tractor's pics that I posted on page 1 of this post.
Here are the pics again, the bottom pic shows the curve.

I don't have one of them to look at, probably the holder can't be put in backwards.

The pic in the operator's manual that I posted on the 1st page may be wrong in showing that you can see the grease fitting through the hand hole.
