Steering Shaft Installation

I replaced the steering shaft seal and took the steering rod out of the gear box. For some reason, I cannot get the steering rod back in. The spacers are in place. I did my other cub with no problem. I jacked up the front so I can move the gear in the gear box, but it does not help. I am thinking the rod screws in and the end of the rod has to be lined up with the hole. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

It sounds like you are doing everything right. Yes, the gear has to screw into mesh with the lower gear.

Raise up the steering wheel end of the rod to the position it would be in when attached to the curved holder. It may not go in if it is lower, or higher, at the top end.

Be sure the lower washer is in position. :)

Thank you both. I finally got it. I guess I did not have it lined up right.

Those generally go in pretty easy, then you get one that you wrestle with for an hour!
