Hydraulic pump woodruff key

Postby Masmith » Thu Nov 05, 2020 6:50 pm

When dissembling the hydraulic pump be careful when removing the woodruff key. I was tapping it with a small punch and hammer when it came loose. I have no idea what the speed was when it came loose, but it was fast enough to ricochet off two walls, a cub hood, and to never be seen again. If anyone has one they want to send me, that would help with the rebuild immensely LOL.

There is a definite grove all the way around the shaft which I think may be to deep to use? No burrs. I don't know if the new oring provided in the kit is enough to keep it from leaking.

The woodruff key is 1/8 x 1/2. Get it at your local hardware store. No waiting, no shipping.

I tried the new ring on mine and had problems again soon after. Contact Tim, (tst) and he can make the shaft like new again.

You can also have the o-ring opening enlarged to allow placement of a lip seal which can be seated away from the groove. Several threads on having that done.

2 of the best buys I have made...the HF metal detector and the magnet bar with 2 wheels. Saved me countless times. I found the universal joint spider in a field of 3 ft weeds from my bush hog after hitting a rock. I also routinely magnet pass in the sheds to make sure I don't get an inadvertent puncture.

When there is a bad groove, this is what I use.

I located a woodruff key from a friend and reassembled the pump and got the tractor running. If it starts leaking into the oil pan I will definitely try one of those from Mcmaster. During the clean up I located the lost woodruff key.
