can you turn the jaws of the wilde 600 over then they would raise the retainer higher?

I tried several versions of valve spring compressors while working on my cub. It seems as if one type doesn’t work well for all the positions. I finally found an old cast iron set at the Florida Flywheelers meet in a junk box for $2.00. They worked the best...but still not perfect.
