headlight mount

Postby tomstractor » Mon Mar 22, 2021 4:24 pm

Putting together my Low-Boy basket. Just went to mount the headlights and the brackets that screw into the hood are too large diameter. The
brackets are 5/8 11 and standard on all my other Cubs but the hood nuts are 9/16 12 on this hood. I can't find a listing anywhere for 9/16 brackets. The hood holes and nuts look to be original. I guess I am going to drill and tap the hood to 5/8 11. I am just wondering when or if IH used the 9/16 12 brackets or if this is a Mutt.

The headlight brackets are standard parts from McMaster. They probably have a size that will fit the nuts you have in your hood.

The hole in the sheet metal is smaller than the other hoods that I have and the fixed nuts inside look original. The 5 mounting holes on the sides of the hood
that mount the rectangular emblems are 5/16 dia. These holes seem too big, but I don't have the emblems to mount yet so i don't
know if this is right. This is a late round nose Cub with a 4 bar grill.

The holes use a barrel clip to hold the emblems on. The clips go in the holes and the emblems push into the clips.

The holes for the barrel clips are much smaller on my 57 with the older mounting emblems.

Yes, The stainless emblems had smaller pins on the back. (Late 54 to early 58)
