NAPA 1153 Gold oil filter

I have been using the 1153 filters for years with no problems. I needed 2 of them to finish my oil changes, and one was ok, but the 2nd one the filter bolt would not go through. I took it along with a spare filter bolt back to local NAPA to verify a replacement would fit. The 2 more they had in stock were also defective. I am waiting till they get more in. Thankfully I always have a spare, and used it to finish oil changes. I am waiting to get another one for a spare.

I have used the Napa filters for some time now without issue, sounds like they had a bad batch come out

There's was a problem with the holes on the filters Steiner was selling a few months back as well.

I bought several a while back when they were on sale, and a couple weeks ago, while doing an oil change, I found my first bad one. Took it back and got a replacement, but the NAPA store found a couple more bad ones while getting another one for me.

NAPA filters are made by Wix. There are still a lot of wix filters that are made in the USA, but Wix has a number of facilities in Mexico, Venezuela, Poland, Brazil, China and others. I do not know where the actual cub filters are manufactured.

There was an issue, a while back, with the Wix filters (that's what was supplied by Steiner) which I thought had been resolved. I'm amazed how long it took for the problem to sift down to NAPA. A lot of the various store brands, such as Carquest, are made by Wix so you could potentially get defective filter from them, also.

I find you have to "screw" the bolt in to the filter hole on those

I use a tapered punch to enlarge the hole. A couple taps with a hammer works.

Correct me if I am wrong, I think there is 2 different oil filter bolts ,any early bolt ,and a later model bolt. If I remember correctly the earlier bolt is a slight bit bigger . I remember changing oil filters using napa filters and the early filter bolt needed to be forced through and the newer model bolt slide right through.

I changed oil on my cub yesterday and used a carquest filter.I screwed the filter on the threads and after clearing the threads it slid down the bolt.I think wix makes carquest filters.

Yea I was reading about this issue last year. It's not isolated. Seems like a huge run was effected

They do. Says on the box. As to those wondering where wix cub filters are made anyone with a box can answer that it says on them. I have had some carwueat wix filters from some other county, india or china I forgot.

Wix also makes the napa gold filters and several other brands
