Hi,
Farmer Dell, a 1953 Cub would usually have a Battery Ignition unit, not a magneto. But it could have a magneto, either one was available.
In one of your posts from 2019 you said you downloaded the Cub owner's manual, it has pics of both systems, if it a manual from around 1953.
Below are pages from the 1955 Cub operator's manual showing the magneto, and the Battery Ignition unit.
There are small pics of the ignition wire routing for both. The pics are dark, I don't know if you can see them.

The "F" & "L" (Red and Black) seem to be backwards on the battery, is this normal?
It looks to me that the original battery was installed backwards, in that the Red wire goes to ground and the Black to the starter?
The F & L labeling is confusing to me, perhaps I just need to flip the battery around?

For a positive ground , ignore cable color(for now ) and be sure shorter cable from positive terminal ( + ) on battery goes to ground on the tractor.
Negative (_) terminal gets long cable to starter switch.
(We can't see your cable color , and don't know what color was used prior. Someone needed a better cable , they could have grabbed anything.)
If you need to rotate battery for a cable to reach where it should , rotate it then.

Hi,
Cubs made before mid 1964 are 6 volts, with positive ground.
The negative cable goes to the starter, and the positive cable to ground.
I don't know what F and L you are talking about.
The posts on a battery are positive and negative.

Re: 1950 cub won't start
Thank you friends, I'm fairly sure I have a broken (Cut) wire someplace, I was encouraged to start another thread called 1953 cub won't start...
The wiring schematics in the service manual is labeled F & L, possibly meaning Load and Feed - but that's just my guess? The old wires appear white with a cloth covering from the negative terminal.

Re-adjusted the valves, some were pretty far out of adjustment, made up a new fuel line, and put new plugs in (gapped at .023). Still no luck. Looks like ill winch it into the trailer, and if we have a chance at the bash we can take a look at it. It obviously needs something else done that i'm missing

Re: 1950 cub won't start
Fortunately, my neighbor is used to troubleshooting wiring and putting in distributor caps and the likes. He put in the new plugs and wires, and even rebuilt the carburetor for me. I found the issue, it was a cracked and corroded wire to the Ignition Coil, I skinned it back and re-sleeved it.
and she's running great, thanks!
