Grill Mesh

Postby goxu1 » Tue Jun 01, 2021 6:34 am

Just wondering what style and size of mesh for behind a '57 cub?
Mine has none at the moment.

Looks to be an 11-bar grille, same as the one in your ID picture. If you go to the PDF Owners Manual for a 1957, it shows an 11-bar grille. Also, a Google search of "1957 Farmall Cub" shows most of the pictures of Cubs having an 11-bar grille.

Enjoy your day!

I used 1/4 welded wire mesh from TS. It has 4 squares per inch compared to 5 squares on original. Hardly noticeable behind the 11 bar grill outer.

Your 5mm spacing equates pretty closely to 5 squares per inch, as it’s spec’d here in the U.S. If you have some sort of industrial supplier, there, perhaps they will have something available to you. 5mm should be fine, I don’t what gauge the wire should be, though.

I replaced my with stainless steel mesh (found on eBay) and it looks amazing. I painted my grill first and then installed the wire mesh. I know it’s not standard bit it looks real nice with shiny stainless steel.

Hi,
Below are pics of your style of grilles, showing the screen on the back side of it.

These pics are from TM Tractor, and may be an original age grille, but they don't say.

TM Tractor has a listing for a new one, but it says it's not available.

Although I have a 59 the mesh on it sure looks like the mesh on the grill at TM's. The mesh is made of 22 gauge wire

Should it be woven or welded mesh ?

I'll check mine later but look close at TM's- it looks welded. If it were woven and you hit something like a stick or branch it would get pushed all out of shape rather than just pushed in.
Update- it is welded

Does not say woven or welded or what gage wire.
