Re: No serial number plate
You should be able to read the stamped engine number, slightly above where Barnyard said to look for the date code. With that, we can do a "reasonableness" check against the possible 11303 serial number.

Re: No serial number plate
That would be FCUBM in front of the numbers. Can you post a photo of the stamped numbers on the engine?

Re: No serial number plate
Hi,
Raymond Durban's database shows that by Cub serial number 11303 there were several hundred numbers difference between the tractor serial number, and the engine serial number.
The engine serial number is not the same number as the tractor serial number by the end of 1947.
Cub serial number 11348 was the 1st 1948 Cub, the serial number list shows.
All the Cub engine serial numbers I have seen were easy to see, no marks like yours has.
Below is info from TM Tractor showing where the date codes are.

It looks like something or somebody dinged it up pretty good. Thanks for your help. I will look for more casting numbers.

Re: No serial number plate
I don't know. I was told that my uncle rebuilt it around 25 years ago. I do know he was real rough with it. He broke the front axle and kind of put it back together. I got a lot of work & TLC to do.

Re: No serial number plate
The prefix for the engine number should be FCUBM. I wonder if the 11303 written on the shop manual page was written there as the engine number. As banged up as the engine number is, could it be 11303?
Based on Raymond's database, engine 11707 would have probably been a tractor around 11080. 11303 would have probably been paired up with something several hundred less than that. In any case, serial 11303 seems too high to go with engine 11707.

Re: No serial number plate
I agree with all of y'all. It looks like 11707 to me. Maybe my uncle just took a guess at 11303. So if it is 11707 does anybody know what the tractor serial could be ?

Re: No serial number plate
I would go with 11303 for the tractor serial #. I can't read the engine serial #. You said the engine block casting date was 10*16*Q?
