1968 IH Cub 59 woods mower help

Postby Darren Dixon » Thu Jul 01, 2021 2:22 pm

Hello,
I'm new to the group and this is my first post. I have 68 IH Cub that my Dad gave me after sitting around his place 4 years then my place 4 more years. A local shop helped me get it running and it seems everything is good except the radiator and back wheel (new ones ordered off Ebay). My Dad gave me an old Woods 59 with the mower and we are trying to get it hooked up. It seems the mule bar is for a tractor with a 90 deg adapter on the tractor PTO (if that is the correct name for the wheel that powers the mower). I am looking for a correct mule bar so I don't have to get the 90 deg gear adapter thing. I have some pictures if it will help. Any help on where to find what I need or a way to make what I have work would be great. Hearing the old tractor run was music to my ears. I actually got to test drive it today for a couple minutes!! I'm in love!!

Thanks Darren

After a bit more research I'm guessing I need a way to adapt an L 59 to a 59c? Not sure the best way to upload some pics.

Are your photos hosted on the internet or located on a local storage device like a hard drive or flash drive? Are they in jpeg format?
Here are some helpful suggestions...

Darren, you had used the incorrect format to post your link. I removed the img that was in brackets. If you click on edit in your post you will see the proper format.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Pulley. You will need the pulley any how. Did one come with the tractor or does Dad have it?

Is the mule bar for a Cub or some other tractor. If it's for a Cub, mount it up along with the deck.

There should be a manual for Woods mowers. Upper left, Quick links, then search for the manual.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I have the pulley the mules bar is for the L59 woods mower for use on the harvester A, Super A 100, 130,140, etc ( as noted from the manual) I guess the difference in what I stated above about needing a 90 deg adapter on the tractor PTO. My thoughts are if I can find a mule bar from a 59c it may work. Thank you so much for your thoughts!

After more research, the part I need is called the rear mounting bracket or Bracket assembly on a C-3 rotary mower or C-2. The serial number for the c-3 is IH-474168-R91. I'll also need the idler assembly that mounts on it. Does anyone have any idea where to find them? Either the C-3 0r C-2 will work.
Thanks again for everyone's help!

Don,
Thank you for the suggestion I’ll do it. Do you know a good source for oil filters?

You will also have to put a twist in the belt between the mower deck and the mule drive pulleys to get the mower spinning the right way for a 59L.
