Newly found Chinese carb problem
I was asked to look at several at the Tug. In the gas inlet, there should be a taper where the ferrule seats to form a seal. The two I saw had no taper but just a machined shoulder. In an attempt to allow usage for the Tug, I tried a fiber washer from the needle cage seat. The gas line still had the flair on it, and it did seal. I don't know how long this will last, but it didn't leak through the Tug pulls.

Yes Bob I have seen that also, I used a countersink type drill bit and put it in the carb

Mine was tapered for a compression fitting and it sealed up just fine. They may not all be the same.

Radioguy41,
Do you remember where/who you purchased your Chinese carb? I would like to try one, but would like it to have tapered gas inlet like yours.
Thanks

Re: Newly found Chinese carb problem
I got it off of Ebay. Here's a link to the vendor I bought from. No guarantee he still ships the same one but for the price might be worth a try?

Radioguy41,
Thanks for the link! Did you have to drill a vent hole?

Re: Newly found Chinese carb problem
No, just had to adjust the float which seems to be a common issue with these carbs.

Re: Newly found Chinese carb problem
Many of these Chinese clones are getting into 3rd and 4th generation copies. Where they are copies of copies of copies, etc. Like using an old Xerox machine, little details are getting lost with each generation of reproduction. I have seen this with a lot of parts, and even non-tractor related products coming directly out of China.
I would also like to note that many of these online sellers located inside China, have ZERO inventory on hand. They source items from places like Alibaba ( Aliexpress) that will drop ship directly to the USA, and purchase items as they sell. Buying the same item from the same seller at two different times may not get you the same product twice in a row. I have purchased same item from same seller a month apart, and items shipped from completely different regions with different names on return address.
The US based sellers of Chinese products, seem to have shared warehouses of popular products and may have better inventory control (being able to buy identical item twice), quality control is still gamble though.
On a side note, beware buying expensive spark plugs online, as the Iridium and Platinum spark plugs are being counterfeited all the way down to near perfect packaging. They will melt into a ball during usage on modern engines.

Likewise, buying the same part from two different sellers at the same time is likely to get you identical items.

I have used about 30 or so and it is a crap shoot as to what you get. But I have been able to get all but one of them to work right

Received carb today. Looks really good, tapered fuel inlet and vent hole drilled out. Will check float height and drop tomorrow. I’m thinking of using the brass float, needle and seat out of a cobbled up IH carb in the Chinese carb. The IH carb has a JB Welded fuel inlet fitting and is slightly warped. I know it will not be IH stamped, but I would like to get away from the cobbled up inlet fitting.

Re: Newly found Chinese carb problem
Just be aware that the float from the IH carb may or may not fit properly. I adjusted the float in mine and left it in there. It should interchange but why not put the carb on and get it running first before making any changes (if necessary)?
