Rear rim difference

Postby AHS » Fri Aug 06, 2021 7:37 pm

4 bolt rims.. in the bolt holes the rivets on the rim have changed. (I don’t know) from one rivet in 47? to two rivets in (48 and after?) are they the same dimension from the bolt hole (width.. 7-8”) to the other? My friend, for me is to weld a two rivet rim to a one bolt rim ( both of calcium rotted). My friend is to weld one two rivet bolt to a 3 single rivet rim.

I’m not sure I understand what you mean.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

I'm no authority but have not read of standard Cub rear rims not being interchangeable.
Your friend will need to focus on the loops (for the bolts to fit through) 's spacing.

I think what you are talking about in the original rim loops took square head bolts and the "newer" style and the replacements rims you have to use carriage bolts.

as far as rivets the rims were made by goodyear and firestone, just different between the two, all cub wheels interchange, widths change a few times but again they all bolt on

One point of trivia to add; though rims from an A, SA, 100,130,and 140 are 24”, have 4 mounting pads and look virtually identical to a Cub rim they will “Not” bolt to a Cub center. (I’ve tried )

Ok! I have the right one calcium free.. and I’m hoping to get the left too! Paint and primer! It looks like the original BF Goodrich AG tire, if not then one from the early 60’s, by the amount of cracks! I’m not too sure if I’m gonna re use the tire…

Hi,
The Cub parts manual shows that the 7" wide rear rim was the widest IH used on Cubs.

The width is measured where the tire bead goes on them, maybe you knew already.

Below is the page from the Cub parts manual, the rims are on the left side of the page.

http://www.farmallcub.info/manuals/cub_ ... 015-03.jpg

The original rear tires say 7-24, or 8-24, or 9-24, up to about 1960, I think, then the tires changed to the newer sizes, 8.3-24, or 9.5-24. I don't know what the 7-24 was changed to, or if it was changed, the parts manual doesn't say.
They were talking on here before about when the sizes changed, and I think they said about 1960, but not sure. :)
