Early Christmas gifts for my cubs!

Postby Dale Finch » Mon Sep 13, 2021 2:48 pm

A big THANK YOU to TM Tractors (one of our forum sponsors :hattip: ) for another timely shipment of parts for my cubs, specifically one part for the garage queen whose right front wheel needed a new bearing race (cup)! I ended up with a huge order just to justify the shipping costs!! Some parts will be put into stock, some will be used on the tractor that is coming into the "hospital" next.

I know I could get some things locally, like seals, and hoses, but to be honest, after asking for the correct hose at 3 different auto parts stores (NAPA, Advance & Autozone) and being told they didn't have it, I decided to splurge & get the nice precut pieces! As for the oil pan gasket...I do make most of my own gaskets, but figured this particular one uses a BIG piece of gasket material, & might not leave the right dimensions for a valve cover or final pan. So...why not!!

The oil pressure gauge is for the next patient (another'55). I finally decided on the plain, no-number gauge with the red arc. TM was out of stock for the 0-40psi gauge. I was about to use the tractor for some mowing last week, & saw little or no rise on the 0-75psi gauge that came with it, so I shut it right down. It needs the proper range, so I'll swap them out to see if I have really big problems  , or just a bum gauge.

Their Baldwin oil filters (never used them before) cost less than the NAPA ones, so stocked up. And they are made in the U.S.A! :{_}:

Anyway, now I need to put this phone down, and put these parts to good use!! The grass is growing fast!

Ron and Rick should have tossed in a couple of candy canes for your Christmas order.

Others take notes: Beat the the Christmas rush and order early and extra ( to cover shipping)!!!

Lucky Cubs!!

I had a slight setback! I installed the new outer front wheel bearing and race, and there was still a problem. I took the hub back off, cleaned off all the fresh grease & inspected everything more closely, and it looks like the Inner Race also had some cracking. I had probably just felt for wear when I cleaned it, but didn't look closely enough to see the hairline cracks.

So after ordering all that stuff, I had to call Ron & order a new race (already had the bearing) & wear ring!!

And the tractor gets a reprieve & gets to spend a few more days here!. She's getting lazier and lazier!

Just for your peace of mind, Baldwin is an old and trusted name in filters. You will find them more in the industrial side of the mix. I’ve used Baldwin frequently, when the opportunity presents itself.

Thanks, Gary! I had just exchanged 2 of NAPA's 1153 filters that had the wrong sized hole at one end. They were quite good about it, and I had only had this problem once before in the many years of using the 1153's.

Chose TM's this time because of need, price, and the "while I'm ordering" philosophy! :D

USA made Baldwin Filters are made within 45 miles of me in Kearney, Nebraska. I think the company name is now Parker. But the filters still use the Baldwin Name. They have always been a quality filter. I used them on my car when I was a teenager.

It looks like the Baldwin oil filters have Tisco stickers on them. Same as the ones Tractor Supply sells.
