47 Cub charging
47 Cub started recently after sitting for 15-20 years… new points, condenser, plugs wires, coil and carb. I’m just blown away by the smoothness on which it runs! Ok, it starts on the second kick over, but it just rolls over real real slow! The battery is 6V, brand new as of June. I’m going to clean out the terminals and clean the positive and negative wire. Ok, on the Cub the dial has 4 positions; on “low” it has 7.22V and on “high” it has 8.34V at max speed. When the battery is just sitting there (with the tractor off) it has 6.5V. I normally unhook the positive lead (I don’t know why, but battery’s and gas on a 74 years old tractor!) Do you usually leave your battery hooked up? I’m up in Maine, and I’m gonna plow with it this winter! Do you use 20 Non detergent oil for the winter time? Thank you all for helping/coaching me on how to gets thing fired up!

Re: 47 Cub charging
6 volts will crank the engine over than a 12 volt battery, same 6 volt starter. Engine should start by hand cranking, so no need to be real fast.
Try leaving the battery connected for several days. This will tell you if the cut-out is sticking.
Oil, you choice of weight, brand, and for weather conditions.

I have an excuse. CRS.

make sure both cable ends are clean, and no bolt on terminal on the battery end, they cause more problems

Ok, yes I have been meaning to do that. But the “no bolt on terminals” what do they look like? Cause I just have regular old battery terminals on mine.

I believe he is saying do NOT use this type cable end:

Substantial corrosion can hide under the clamp.
A better choice is one that is soldered on, or professionally crimped on. These are my favorite, and since they come pre-soldered, all I need is a regular small propane torch. They make all the different configurations you would need...positive or negative ground, etc.
