48 Cub - serial number plate

Postby phill_mi » Sat Oct 30, 2021 12:47 pm

Greetings; I recently got a 48 Cub, from a neighbor, and am in the process of changing fluids and hoping to use it as a working tractor. So I am not focused on restoration, but IF I do get that bug someday, what do you folks do when the serial number plate is missing from the steering housing. I have seen that new plates are available form various vendors, but if I got a new plate what would you put for a serial number? The engine casting (and other parts) indicate April 22, 1948.

Find your engine serial number and deduct around 400 to it.

Interesting rule of thumb there. I’m going to have to go check mine now.

That's for a 48. A 52 Cub might have 1,000 difference between engine and chassis numbers.

Unfortunately, it would be deceitful to stamp any specific number on it, you might accidentally select the number of another owners tractor. The new plates look real nice but if you put anything on it, it should reflect that you don’t know the actual number.

If you get "the bug" go buy another with a nice serial tag to "restore"!

Just don't swap serial plates.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.
