Problems with wire harness

Postby Command52 » Sat Dec 11, 2021 1:09 pm

Im to the point of my restoration where the wiring has started. My questions is the grounds to the headlights and back lights have grounds that run up to the dash ,. I read on here that the ground wires mount to the dash with the dash mounting bolts but my wire ends are about 1/4" and the mounting bolts are 3/8 " i believe. I got the harness from Brillimans So i figure it is correct I realy dont want to change the ends. Thank You Billy

Ask John Brillman. He is usually very helpful.

I’m pretty sure the dash mounting bolts are 5/16”. You might recheck those ends, to be sure they’re not 5/16”.

What year is the cub? Are these: teardrops or pancake" lights or the half-round lights? The teardrop ground through the mount

If you gave Billman the correct year you have the correct harness. John has always been very helpful if I had a question about the harness.
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

The harness is perfect its just the wire #42 that goes to the head lights and to the dash has the small eye on both ends . I sent Brillmans a email They are the best to work with

Hi,
Some of the Cubs have the grounding wires, and some don't.
If the Cub didn't have them before, you don't need to use them.
It sounds like the holes in the connectors are too small, and they need replacing.

My 1956 Cub doesn't have the ground wires for the lights.

Pretty sure the ground wires started with 12v. Some folks have experienced problems with '1 wire' lights as they paint everything and therefore don't have a good ground through the mounting hardware.

Hi,
The Cub parts manual TC37-F shows that the light grounding wires were used on Cubs serial number 210000 and below, and on Cubs 210001 - 224400. All of those were 6 volt Cubs.
But they have said on here that not all of them had the light grounding wires.
The wires are numbers 41 and 42 in the pics. You can see them in the pics of behind the dashes, at the lower part of the page.

The pics for the 12 volt Cubs, serial numbers 224401 and above, don't show light grounding wires grounding on the dash bolt.

Teardrop lights are grounded by the mount. The pancake and 1/2 round lights are grounded through the harness. If you got it from Brillmans the ring terminal is probably correct if you give them the correct year for the harness.

Hi,
The Cub and LoBoy parts manual shows the 2 bolts that hold the dash onto the clutch housing are 3/8".
