Axel/final drive issue?
I’m new to this forum. I have a 55 Cub that sat for 8 years under cover. I got it running and am working out some minor bugs. I have been using it for about 4 months and it is running great. The other day i was plowing snow for the first time with wheel weights and no chains. When the snow got heavy the right wheel slipped on the ice and the left wheel did not move. I don’t know if this is an axel issue or a problem with the final drive. I would appreciate any advice to help me diagnose and repair it.Thanks.

Re: Axel/final drive issue?
Next time the right wheel spins, try stepping on the right brake, and you might find the left wheel will turn.
Oh, and WELCOME!! I love the '55's...I have THREE... they're addictive!

Re: Axel/final drive issue?
Thanks for the quick answer. I have never had that happen before. I guess that this is normal operation and not an issue as it locks the differential. Will the left wheel act the same when it looses traction also?

Re: Axel/final drive issue?
yes, non locking Diff, if a wheel spins use the brake on the spinning wheel and the other wheel will go

Re: Axel/final drive issue?
Hi,
The right rear wheel on Cubs commonly spins before the left rear wheel does.
The tractor is offset to the left side, there is more weight on the left, the right is lighter.
The type of rear tire tread makes a difference also. You didn't say if both rear tires have the same tread design.
The 45 degree bar tread works good, I have found.
Below is a page from the 1955 Cub operator's manual, showing a Cub. They came with the style of rear ag tires in the pic.

Nowadays there are other tread designs, and turf tread.

It has standard ag tires on it. Great info on this site.
