Update on new 1948 cub
Had some time to work on the new cub today all the intake valve were stuck . It also has a stripped head bolt going to put a Helicoil in that's the only way i can think to fix that . There was a lot of trash on top of the valves but no rust in the cylinders .

I could not say tractor when I was 2 years old so I called it Err Err.
I loved this tractor then and I still love it now. - Circle of Safety: Y

Re: Update on new 1948 cub
I reviewed some of your previous posts and noticed that you had lapped the valves sometime around October of last year. Did this buildup happen since then?

Re: Update on new 1948 cub
If that was dry, you need to do a wet compression test to determine if it's rings or valves.

Re: Update on new 1948 cub
Time to measure the bores and pistons to see if they are in or out of spec.
And measure ring gaps with the rings removed from the pistons and set in a bore, squared up using the face of a piston in the bore.
With that data you can decide if you need just new rings, or a bore job, new pistons and new rings!

kinda a mess on the valves, you may want to pull those valves and check seat condition

Re: Update on new 1948 cub
I would start with the valves first. Check the condition of the valve faces and seats. The wet compression test should have been much better if the rings were the major fault.tst wrote:kinda a mess on the valves, you may want to pull those valves and check seat condition
You may still have to do a major engine overhaul. Valves first.
I have an excuse. CRS.
