I have never experienced a problem before, keeping my cub running. In fact, last year she got better maintenance than the prior 5 years.
Last year she got a rebuilt carburetor, new fuel bowl, cleaned out breathing tube, and all sludge, and a new battery, complete tune up new plugs wires and points. Ran great every month all winter, but now that I need it, she is conking out!
I had this problem with my small John Deere before, and it was due to water in the fuel causing the carburetor to stick, producing that white oxidation on some of the parts using that damned Ethanol put out by "government greenies" who like to burn food, while thinking they are helping the environment, but I digress!
Anyway, it can't be the carburetor now, as I just installed a new one, and yet she still is conking out, and the carburetor will even flood, so it's not a supply problem!
I was thinking about changing out all the gas, but at these prices, I would rather burn it off!
Additionally, is there a way to run a piece of wire down the stainless fuel line in just making sure I have no deposits? It shouldn't as I always run the carburetor dry at shut down... I'm very frustrated, it's got to be something simple that I'm missing?!

Re: Runs then Stops!
How long does the tractor run before it dies? How long do you wait after tractor dies before it starts up again?
Ignition problem?
Ignition problem?

You say that you just installed a new carburetor. What kind was it?

Re: Runs then Stops!
I ran it around the backyard I'd say 10-15 mins, when I backed her back in the garage she died. I have 3 Gallons of last fall's gas in the tank.
The original IH carb was rebuilt last year but started leaking from the intake breather and top cork gasket - like the float was stuck, so I got a $35.00 one, (made in China) until I can get time to fix the old one... The coil and condenser were also replaced last year, along with the plugs wires and 6V battery.
I waited 5-10 minutes before restarting, and again "even with the new carb" on, she flooded out? I don't think it's any deposits in the fuel line, as I always shut off the tank and run the carburetor dry when shutting down. I read some place to put "Sea Foam" in the tank, but I always use marine grade Stay-Bil in the gas...?

Ignition problem. Coil.
Edit. I think you started out with an ignition problem, faulty new coil. Then added a foreign built carburetor. Now you have two problems, ignition and carburation.

Re: Runs then Stops!
Did you set the float height and drop on the new carb?
Also, people have found a batch of new carbs lately where one hole inside hasn’t been drilled out. Once they drill out the hole, the problem goes away.

I would try some seafoam, put some in the tank 1/4 to 1/2 can , let it stand for awhile a couple hours and give it a try.especially if your running oxygenated gas and if it has sat for some time.

Re: Runs then Stops!
The China Carb worked fine, till I can get the old one cleaned up on my working weekly Cub.
I appreciate the feedback!

Re: Runs then Stops!
I was having a similar problem with loss of power. Someone on here had me take the main jet out of the carb and run some electrical wire into the jet holes. Didn't seem like anything happened, but it worked like a charm. Seriously, took 30 seconds to clean it, even though it looked completely clean.

Doesn’t take much of an obstruction to have a noticeable effect.
