Does anybody know what this white stuff could be? Removed float and placed in hot water and did not dissolve. The date on the carb is 8/63.

Or the corrosion could be from the fuel you are using that has ethanal in it.

Or both! Ethanol is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air. The water in the fuel reacts with the metal in the carburetor castings, forming zinc or aluminum oxide.

Would adding drygas help?

Drygas is the ame alacohol. It absorbs the water in the fuel, and allows it to burn. Won't help,

I use STA-BIL 360 Marine Ethanol Treatment and Fuel Stabilizer ( blue not the red). I add to my gas cans before I go to fill them.

For me this has been a big help in reducing these types of problems. Also I am careful with my gas cans and store them inside a shed.

The first thing to do is check around to see if any gas stations are selling non-ethanol gasoline—straight gas. They do locally here, but I still add Sta-bil to it (the standard variety, not the marine version). I haven’t had gas-related issues in any of my tractors, mowers, or equipment.

There's an app called "puregas" that will locate places selling straight gas based upon zip code. It's very useful.

Non-ethanol gas is not an option everywhere. In PA the only option in my area is av gas at an airport.

I cant see that being caused by a little ethanol in the gas.

My bet is that carb had a bowl full of straight waterl

I had the same corrosion in one of mine, I'm quite certain it was the ethanol gas that was left to sit for a while. I've also seen it in multiple small engines such as lawnmowers, etc.

Didn't happen before ethanol, so I blame the modern gas.

I burn the regular (contains ethanol) in my Cub, but I do keep my tractor inside out of the weather when not used.

Who knows, maybe my carb if full of white too, but it sure runs good!
