My first Lo-Boy

Postby Greenthumbfarms » Sun May 01, 2022 4:29 pm

Picked this little one up today...never had a LoBoy before. Really does run nice and fires right up.
Need to give the clutch adjustment some attention, and replace the throttle lever and quadrant. Other than that it seems pretty solid.
The seat brackets are mangled up pretty bad, will have to straighten them out when I locate a good used deluxe seat for it. Has all the drawbar brackets, but no drawbar. Instead this homemade one was put on...that will be removed pretty quick...

Interesting seeing the 42" bush wacker type mower under there!

What year is that one?

1965 according to the serial number. Mower ran smoothly but I need to sharpen the blades before I attempt to actually mow with it.

I have a 1948 that had a mower of that type under it that I used to mow with years ago.

It did a good job on the grass and I cut lots of brush with it.

I might have never known the blades was on backwards if one had not broke.

They was sharpened so much previous to me getting it that most of the blade was gone.

I bet at some point I mowed over 2" trees with that thing even with the blades on backwards!

I bought and installed new blades for it and used it some more for that season before upgrading to a Woods prd7200 3 point mower!

I have yet to test for power at the rear light, nor spun it right...but that will be addressed when I swap out the seat and fix the brackets. I need to find some headlights too...may be some basic ones from my parts box instead of IH style lights.

Normal pto pulley that I have is 8.5 or so across. The one you have is the one I have for my 59s.
For headlights…McMaster sells the eye bolts for a few bucks each.
I threw a pair of $20 auto junk headlights onto the upper hood bolts on either side of the radiator cap. A bit ghetto but works

I did mow my quarter acre lot at the house with it today. Belt is totally shot, snapped due to age.
I bought a replacement Steiner throttle handle and quadrant and the throttle lever is still jumping back. Not sure if the teeth need to be cut deeper to hold the lever in place better.

I had to put a slight twist in my lever to make it engage the teeth on the quadrant better

And the lever tooth wears down too. Had to weld and recut my lever along with the quadrant repair.

I replaced both the lever and quadrant. The old ones were worn and I do not have the time to weld them up and re-tooth

Hi,
A small, 3 cornered file works to make the notches in the sector deeper, if needed. :)

I used to cut 4 acres of 3-4ft thick weeds with that type mower and the cub hardly faltered so fix 'er up and you will be pleased. I dressed the throttle teeth with a slow slow running sawzall with hack saw style teeth on the blade. worked awsome.
