Grease for magneto rotor

Postby K_Wiz » Fri May 27, 2022 2:35 pm

What kind of grease should you use on the rotor gear of a magneto and what grade of oil should you use in the magneto. It looks like there was lithium.

I use white lithium grease on the magneto rotor and for the magneto oil cup it is ok to use the same grade as is used in the crankcase.

I've used most any grease on the rotor mechanism. It doesn't need to be di-electric or anything special. For oiling the cup I use 30 weight or less, for instance, sewing machine oil. That oil goes into a wicking system to keep the "oilite" bronze bearings moist. They need very little oil. I suggest 1-2 drops once a year for light use of the Cub, maybe twice a year if used heavily.

Thanks for that, Rick. I've been negligent relative to the oiler but will take care of it directly.
