Electrolysis process

Postby 5 Forward » Thu Jun 02, 2022 7:10 am

I want to put some parts in my electrolysis tank that has brass bushings. Will the electrolysis process destroy the bushings? I use copper wire to support parts in the tank. It does not appear to affect the copper wire. Just curious if brass would be different.

In my experience, electrolysis will cause brass to turn black, but the black film is easily removed (via a light touch with a brass wire wheel), with no apparent damage to the brass part itself. But, being cautious, maybe you should run a "scrap" brass bushing or part through the e-tank and see what happens first. Just my .02...

Some brass bushings absorb and retian lubricant/oil. Suggest drying out the bushing and then re-oiling it.
I have an excuse. CRS.
