1950 Cub

Postby Carmall_Fub » Fri Jun 17, 2022 8:20 am

This Cub was purchased new in Oregon, in June of 1950 by a friends grandfather Roy Thwaite. The tractor sat idle for the last 25 or so years until it was given to me almost 2 weeks ago. I rebuilt the carb, rewired it, changed the fluids, primed the oil pump, rebuilt the sediment bowl, rebuilt the lights, touched up the points and away it went.

Wonderful find, congratulations! If I'm reading the cereal number correctly, it falls within the "demo" range, are you finding any indications of white paint under anything?

Thanks, no not a trace of white paint.

That serial number is in the general January to March demo range but is in one of the blocks that has been previously identified as red tractors.

Sheet metal is very nice as is the paint. I have a 50 with a mag. It is one of my favorites but it was repainted. yours looks to be original.

When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

Thanks, yep, it's original and I am planning to keep in that way. 2 of my 4 Cub's have been repainted, one by my grandpa when it was his, and another by a friend when it was his. I'm not a fan of repainting, I am more "mechanical restoration" oriented. I like them in their work clothes.

Always interesting to see original docs with handwritten comments. Our daughter lives in Hillsboro, OR.

Very nice, indeed! Glad you knew what you were doing and was able to get it back running without too much trouble. Not everyone is so successful.

Keep on keeping on! Cubs are a bear for work!
