C-22 with manual lift practical?

Postby inairam » Mon Aug 29, 2022 1:31 pm

I have a cub that had an ih1000 loader on it. The PO removed the TC and got a pump from a numbered cub and ran the hoses from the pump directly to the loader. It was a nice setup. I moved the loader to a 130 and removed the pump off the cub.

I am thinking about putting a sickle bar mower on it. I have a manual lift set up i could use. Is it a practical setup?

I will be using it for trimming around creeks and ponds. I figure once I set the height I will not be changing it often but I have not used a C-22 since I was an early teen and that cub had a TC so I really do not know.

It will work just fine, it's actually easier to lift than you think with a manual lift. As long as you don't have too many aches and pains on your left side.

Practical, but not what I would want. My experience with a C-22 is much more recent than yours and I wouldn't want to use one without the hydraulic lift. Just my opinion, worth what you paid for it.

I am left-handed which is why I thought it may work for me.

In the early years, there were many Cubs that operated with a sickle bar mower and no hydraulics. Go for it!

I have one I put a hand lift on. Just adjust the spring until it lifts as hard as you want it to.

I bought a BN that someone used the Cub manual lift lever on a custom mount, mounted to the right side of the torque tube to lift a woods 59 mower.

It was easy to operate that way

cub c22 mower.JPG

This photo was taken in June '22. I'm kinda a lightweight (137#) and getting old (75 yrs), but I'm able to mow my small field with the manual lift without too much trouble. Putting the mower on and off (because I plow in the winter) is less of a pleasure than the mowing.

Ours was used for years with manual lift. As was stated earlier, adjust the spring to your taste.
