Cub throttle won’t work when engine running

Postby Mrbill » Sun Nov 20, 2022 4:33 pm

I just replaced the carb on my 55 cub with a new aftermarket carb. The previous one was in bad shape and the engine wouldn’t even start. After installing the new one, it Starts and idles fine but as soon as the engine is running the throttle control no longer works. It is stuck and won’t move. With the engine off the throttle control will move just fine all the way to the carburetor. I am at a loss.

Adjust the throttle to governor linkage using the following procedure. After the adjustment, lubricate all the linkage pivot points.

I will give this a try. But what has me puzzled is it will move fine when the engine is not running. As soon as the engine starts running it just ceases and will not move.

The control rod hooked to the throttle lever you move with your hand, it connects to the governor.

The governor is then hooked to the carburetor with its own linkage.

More than likely something is up with your governor!

Since I dont really have any experience rebulding governors, this is just a guess, but my guess is the spring holding your governor in place is broke or missing.

Don, your instructions worked, thank you! I also learned if the idle is high, it will also freeze the throttle control.
