There's going to be a Cub swap meet in Pinckneyville in September. You may want to wait to see if some of the things you need will be there.

Something else to think about, there will be a Cubfest in Harrison Ohio (Ohio/Indiana border) June 1, 2 and 3. You are only Five hours away, that is less than many attendees. It is an excellent way to meet many of the forum members, learn about Cubs and pick up spare parts. We had over 60 folks last year from about 14 states. Most of the attendees roll in Thursday afternoon and reserve rooms for a couple nights. You can read a bit more about what CubFests are here, www.cubfest.com.

Here is info about the June CubFest ww.barnyardbash.com

I just read this post and found out what MCC is. I’ve had a Cub posted on the Vine with no interest and yesterday the CFO says “Why don’t you just keep it?”. So I guess I’m a new member too.

Pinckneyville and the Bash are on my list of things to attend it just depends what is happening at that time.

Got the finals drained. The oil in them looked old enough to be on Social Security. Will have to pull the right final to remove the extra stuff around the brake and axle. Decided to go to 12 volts to match the other Cub and the 3 H's. Other than some hardware I have everything I need except the pto pulley for the sickle mower. Keeping an eye out for one but not that big of a priority yet.

Spent most of the week getting mowers ready for this year but did get the alternator mounted and most of the wiring strung.

Do have a question on how would you repair the hood where the side panels mount .

Had thought about using a piece of flat steel with a couple of square nuts tacked to it then tacked to the hood.
I was wondering if anyone else has experience with this problem ?

YEP! Have had a few that way. My friend simply snips a short piece of metal, welds it in place, grinds to shape, drills a bolt hole then tack welds a nut on the inside. A bit of grinding smooth then some primer and paint and you'd never know! :D

Got a little more done on the Cub between the refrigerator quitting, truck transmission springing a leak and a local tractor show . Got the right rear rim and center sandblasted, painted and tire mounted. Took the left rear rim and center off but have not sandblasted yet. Decided to see if it would run because I did not want to eat any sandblasting material. Yes I wear a hood and mask but it still finds a way to get where it does not belong. I had squirted oil in the cylinders when I first got the tractor and rolled the engine over a few times to lubricate stuff. I hooked up my little gas tank and fired up the tractor. It started right up, oil pressure came up, the charging system worked and there are no mosquitos in the shop. It started smoking and blowing the oil out the exhaust as soon as it was running. I had the big door to my shop open and three fans moving air so I just let it run until it quit smoking. It sounds good and the hydraulics work. I will have to reseal the steering box, the fluid I put in a couple of weeks ago found its way out. I am going to repaint the front rims, battery box, tool box, hood and lights. Hope to have it ready for a local show in July.

Does the steering fill plug have a vent hole in it, which is necessary to prevent a build up of pressure due to an increase in temperature, which would then force fluids out if not vented.

There should be a hole from inside the plug that intersects with a hole in one of the flats on the side of plug. Sometimes they get filled with dirt and grease.

Yes, the hole was cleaned when I found the gearbox full of grease. Since it has been 25 deg's warmer than when I put gear oil in it I figure the oil found its way out, that's why the PO put grease in it.

Alternative to replacing the seal: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=102602&p=811650&hilit=corn+head+grease#p811650 Try a search using corn head grease in the search box at the upper right corner of this page. I think Jim Becker's comment in the link makes a lot of sense. JMHO Stan

Got the left rear rim and center sandblasted, painted, tire installed and back on the tractor. Got the battery box, tool box and rear light blasted, painted and installed. Got the wiring finished for the rear lights and flasher. Working on the steering box leak. Got the lower seal changed just waiting on the gasket. There was no gasket when I took it apart. Will use "00" grease in the steering box. Next is cleaning and painting front rims. Will need one new front tire. Then on to the hood.
