Woods 59 mower deck installation

Postby Dave Downs » Sun Apr 09, 2023 5:17 pm

I’ve installed and removed a Woods 59 on a Cub at least a dozen times……and it is always a struggle. And I don’t think I’ve done it the same way twice! I’ve removed a front tire, and once even lifted the front end to help sliding the main deck under the tractor after I got the ‘spear’ under the rear.

One time things seemed to line up and it went in place with a minimum of effort but I don’t remember how I did it!

The darn thing is heavy and awkward and I’m not getting any younger……and the grass is growing and it’s time to take the plow off (easy!!) and put the mower on.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

If your front wheels are in the right holes. I just drove the tractor over the mower and hook it up

I use a tie strap so I do not bend over to much and get it partially under the tractor, then pull the spear under, pull it in some more and turn the front tires and it slips right past them, ,probably less than a minute to get it under the tractor

put boards on the mower for ramps and bounce right over! Thats the easy part! hooking the rest up is the hard part!

I could help with lightening the load totally by taking it off your hands . Just a thought

I put 2-2" pipes under the deck, jack up the whole front end and slide it under. Slides nicely

I use the same technique as tst. Took me about 30 years to figure that out.

I jack the left rear wheel just high enough to get the spear under then use a crow bar hook to pull it the rest of the way. Then use the floor jack to lift the spear to get it into the mule drive. I also wedge the front axle.

Get two furniture dollies from Harbor Freight and position them within the confines of the deck. Then you can roll it easily anywhere you want.

I use Tim's technique on a C-2. It will only work with the front wheels turned all the way one direction (don't remember if it's right or left).
