1953 cub throttle linkage

Postby 1953vacub » Mon Jun 12, 2023 4:17 pm

Hello I have a 1953 cub iv been working on restoring. I'm having a throttle issue everything is hooked up right and moves free but when the lever is at idle I start moving it up and nothing on the front of the tractor moves until its about halfway up then I run out of room before its wide open. I have adjusted the linkage at the carburetor and I cant find anywhere else to adjust. it acts like the throttle rod is too long but I
haven't changed it and it looked to be original when I bought it. any advise would be appreciated
thank you.

Hi,
Below are pictures of the throttle rod clip.
The 1st pic, from TM Tractor Parts, shows the clip is straight out from the head.
The 2nd pic shows where the clip should be, it attaches to the 5/16" bolt at the rear area of the head.

The throttle rod should be so it naturally stays about where the clip is, not pulling away from the clip.
Bend the rod if needed, so it stays in the position of the clip.
Bend the rod over a long area of it, not in one short place. Hold it at the front near the governor arm, so the arm doesn't have the force of bending put on it.
After putting the rod in the clip, bend the clip closed enough that the rod stays in it, but that the rod moves freely in the clip.
