Re: Cub Sickle mower pully noise
Okay so I've been looking at the pulleys and the pulley off the pto does not line up with the pulley for the mower, the pto pulley sticks out about 3/4" past the mower pulley and no idea why and i don't see a way to adjust that, this would take a bearing out pretty quick i would think. Any ideas? I have a picture but can't figure out how to post it here keeps saying image is too large

There are a number of ways to re-size your photo file size. One easy way is to e-mail the photo to yourself, it will arrive in a smaller file size.

That pulley is too close to the bracket. Can you post a photo of the front hanger?

Re: Cub Sickle mower pully noise
the lower shaft can be shimmed at either end to get the pulleys aligned, does the bracket in the front hang straight up and down ? seen them get hit and bent pushing the shaft assembly forward, also the the drawbar bracket bolts and the I think the mower bracket bolts need to be a special tapered bolt, the ones with the washer will vibrate out, if the hole has a countersunk hole you need the tapered bolt

Re: Cub Sickle mower pully noise
i will get another picture soon, but i know it does hang straight down on the front hanger. What is the best way to shim the shaft back?

Turn the pto pulley around and mount it backwards.

Re: Cub Sickle mower pully noise
i believe this is my whole issue with my noise, it being out of line probably took out my new pilot bushing and bearing as well.

Re: Cub Sickle mower pully noise
The pulley is definitely too close to the bracket as radioguy41 suggested. It has rubbed the pulley. You can tell by how the forward side of the pulley being thin, almost a knife edge. On the mounting bolts, the top bolt should be regular bolt like you have(do you have a lock washer on it? If not, install one) and the bottom bolt should be taper head implement bolt as tst said. Do yourself a favor and get one. Have you checked out parts manual here on the site? I’d take the large pulley off the rear(reverse threaded) to better see what you have and compare to manual.

Re: Cub Sickle mower pully noise
On the mounting bolts yes lock washers on everything. Im thinking I'll take the rear pully off like you said and shim it back to line up with the pto, will play around with all this new info and see what happens

Look at the photos on the following link and you will be able to see the spatial relationships between all the parts.

Re: Cub Sickle mower pully noise
Hi,
The mower front mountings may be bent from someone hitting something, when backing up.
The long tube would probably slide through the rear bracket.
You may need to heat the front brackets to red hot, and bend them back to the right shape.
Below are listings at TM Tractor for the IH tapered head bolts used to hold the Cub 22 Mower on the Cub, at the front mountings, at the clutch housing, if the mower has the tapered area around the holes. You can look at the pics.
There are supposed to be 4 of them holding the drawbar on also.
http://www.tmtractor.com/new/gb/324fp.htm
The 1 1/4" length is used for holding the mower rear bracket on, at the lower hole, with the drawbar on the Cub.
http://www.tmtractor.com/new/sp/445fp.htm
There should be space between the rear lower pulley, and the guard around the pulley. On my Cub 22 Mower, it is about 5/8".
There should be a space between the heavier part of the front weight and the mower bracket, just behind the weight. It is 5/8" also, on my mower.
Turn the shaft so the heavier part of the weight is up, that is where I measured.
I doubt that it hurt the PTO bearing, or the PTO pilot bushing, using the mower for a short time.
The rear pulley has left hand threads.
I sent you a PM.
