Scrap or save

Postby Jackman » Fri Sep 22, 2023 10:31 am

I’ve had this Cub sitting around for almost ten years I’ve pondered buying rims and tires and of course see what the engine would require to run again only thing is I could probably buy two fir the cost of saving this pile. Such a delima save the Cub or trade it for cash at the scrap yard.

Think I would place an ad on Craigslist, etc.. Suggest $100- or OB. Someone may want it for parts and make an offer.

Guessing, probably a bit less than $100- at the scrap yard, and you have to haul it there.

You could part it out and sell the parts yourself. But, it's your time and labor.

Agree with Eugene. Looks like parts to me. It would take too many parts & too much time to get it into working condition.

you have at least one of the axle hanger bolt spacers. People need them.

Was it in a fire?

you are not far from member TST he may be interested in it for parts.

Bring it to Cecil's CubFest NE on October 6-8 in Oxford.
It'll be a challenge!

Yes I’m close to Tim (tst). Scrap is up high right now I bet this is worth over 200 but I don’t have in me to scrap it that’s why it’s been sitting lawn art but decision time is near .

About the history of the Cub what I’ve been told is it sat along side a Super A with in the walls of a roofless derelict building in the city of Newburgh NY for over 20 years and I’ve had it probably 10 years. I’m sure not many here know Newburgh NY but it’s a dense urban area and this Cub was in the ghetto were you would never suspect a tractor of any type would be.

Looks pretty far gone to me. Unless it had significant sentimental value (i.e. your first tractor, your grandpa's tractor, etc.) I would just part it out. You would make more parting it out than just selling it whole most likely. But if you just wanted to get rid of it and be done with it, just put an ad up and see if you can get a couple hundred bucks or something.

Like you said, you'd be better off spending money on one that someone else already did all the work on. Either a good solid running one or spend a little more for a nice restored one. You'd be ahead either way compared to restoring that one as it sits now.

That would be awesome but I can't too much going on to travel that far with a Cub . Bummer but I did make it to Cecil's when he was in Kinderhook my first and only Cub fest it was excellent, Bill Hudson brought me a very nice fast hitch all the way from Ohio 8) .

A Cub would be consider cast iron which gets a better price , anyway I'm not likely going to scrap it even at a loss monetarily saving a Cub seems like a cool idea. Still thinking

Cast iron is $185- $215- a gross ton. Cub would be considered mixed. It's not all cast iron. They would discount for rims, tires, dirt, sheet metal, electrical wiring, and anything else. Been there, done that.

However, as the Cub sits, it's about 1000 lbs. Even if the local scrap you paid the max it's about worth about $100-.

Thinking it's a good idea to pass it along as parts.

Up here I scrap stuff a lot it’s different that Cub in would be considered cast iron but no matter the real question is yard art , or fix it. I’m not into selling parts I’m busy with too much other stuff to deal with phone calls and text and no shows and haggling fir 15 dollars , maybe when I retire but not now . I’ll make a thread if I attempt to resurrect it….
