I have a 1964 6-volt Cub serial number 223561 with the square hood. The Engine serial number 244649. The engine looks to be red. The dash foot plate and shifter are red with yellow underneath. The hood is rust color to red, but the underside looks like a faded white. Every time I think I have it figured out I read something different somewhere else. Also, would like to find out which decals should be on it.
I know 1964 was kind of a transition year.

Here is a link to an old post on this topic: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=102478&hilit=cub+painted+red+with+white+hood
During 1964 there were a few hundred cubs made that were painted red with a white hood. The topic has been discussed here before, you could find some of the posts by using the search function at the top right corner of this page. JMHO Stan

Re: 1964 Cub Color
Hi,
Here is some info about the Cubs in 1964, and 1965.
Below is a page from the Cub parts manual, showing the different styles of Cubs, and telling the serial numbers when they were made.
There are other pages before the pages below, showing older Cubs.
The upper Cub on the page below is older than yours.
The lower pic shows the decal on the hood. They were a Farmall Cub.
http://www.farmallcub.info/manuals/cub_ ... 000-12.jpg
People on here have posted info about red square front Farmall Cubs, with white hoods.
The page below shows the next style after yours, 224705 and above were yellow with a white hood, but some were red, not yellow, evidently. They were an International Cub, the Farmall name was not used on Cubs from then on.
http://www.farmallcub.info/manuals/cub_ ... 000-13.jpg
IH changed Cubs to 12 volts at serial number 224401, so yours would originally be 6 volts, positive ground.
Below is a page of listings from TM Tractor Parts for decals for Cubs. Your Cub would use the 1st decal on the page.
http://www.tmtractor.com/new/de/de_003.htm
There may be other decals used on the Cub too, I don't see that TM Tractor Parts has a listing for your Cub. Below are listings, the last one on the page is for Cubs a little older than yours.

Re: 1964 Cub Color
Do we think there is any chance they had run out of red sheet metal parts so they painted over yellow ones that were in production already? The structure of the cub shows no sign of ever being yellow. The underside of the hood is white and the rest of the sheet metal is yellow under the red. I would assume if the whole tractor was yellow the cast parts would show some sign of it.

Re: 1964 Cub Color
Without a complete history of your Cub, anything is possible.
Serial Number Range of the 12V Farmall Cubs 224401-224703. (303 12V Farmall Cubs) Based on all the conversations that have taken place on this topic, the Red & White Farmall Cubs that have been catalogued are in this S/N range.
Yours with S/N 223561 falls within the 6V Farmall Cub category and early in the 1964 production run. White paint on the underside of the hood puts a wrinkle in things, unless it was a replacement due to damage. What color are the front wheels and the wheel centers on the rear? All of the Red & White Cubs that have been recorded here have had white front wheels and white rear centers, just like the International Loboys.
Have you checked the casting codes of all the major castings to see if they are all in vicinity of each other?
Post some photos of your tractor!

Re: 1964 Cub Color
There are casting date codes on the larger castings on Cubs. They tell the date when the parts were made. They use a letter for the year.
Below is info from TM Tractor Parts showing what the codes are.
http://www.tmtractor.com/id/id_004.htm
The info below shows where the codes are.
The code on the clutch housing is usually partly behind the clutch pedal.
The code on the last part on the page, the steering gear housing, usually can't be seen with the tractor assembled.

Re: 1964 Cub Color
I will check the casting numbers. I know it had a bad paint job at sometime in the past. Thanks

Re: 1964 Cub Color
Looks repainted, evidently with a low grade paint. My reaction is to suggest it was originally yellow/white and got repainted red. Serial number seems to contradict that. Keep in mind that on later tractors a lot of the sheet metal parts had a primer coat. People sometimes mistake that primer for a yellow paint job.
