Picked up a Cub 28A Disc on FB Marketplace yesterday for what I determined was a good price ($180), at least in the Mid Atlantic area. It is the 5’ model with ten 18” diameter solid discs. It is complete and even includes the locking straps, which I will likely never use. All the adjustments for leveling, changing the angle of the gangs and adjusting the location of the disc scrapers are functional. The discs turn freely and aside from the surface rust on the frame and a crumbling weight box, it is in surprisingly good condition. The floor of the weight box is disintegrating, and I will probably replace it with expanded metal. Also, the jaws of the clevis hitch are bent in and will have to be opened a little to accept the drawbar, but no big deal. Photos are attached below.
The fun part of the day was unloading the disc from my pickup truck. The seller loaded it with a bucket loader on a larger tractor, so no issues there. I had an old piece of plywood for it to rest on in the truck bed and secured it with ratchets and straps. I knew unloading was not going to be as smooth, because Millennial Farmer, I am not. This is in reference to his You Tube videos which clearly demonstrate that there isn’t a piece of farm machinery or tool that he does not own. In any event I used ratchets, a come-along, my cub cadet and engine hoist to get it on the ground without any injuries. Basically I lifted it up just enough to drive the truck clear and then lowered it onto plywood on the base frame of the engine hoist.
Searching this forums’ posts I discovered that the drawbar should be floating (similar to the 193 plow attachment. Maybe that is why the clevis hitch is bent, because the previous owner had the drawbar fixed and tried to lift the disc. Also got to be careful and remove any weights from the weight box before unhitching disc from tractor, because it can roll backwards due to the weight imbalance. Other than that, is there anything else to watch out for? Thanks

I just saw one on Craigslist locally, in comparable condition. They were asking $250. Sounds like you did well.

Thanks for the feedback Ricky. The seller originally had listed it for $300. He bought it thinking it would work with a 3point hitch.

That looks like it, but I got mine from a guy in Southern Maryland.

Must not know tractors too well if he thought that disk would work on a three point?

I agree, and believe he overpaid for it too.

Re: Cub 28A Disc Harrow
I got one a year ago for $200.00. It has different disc blades and is a bit better shape. I dismantled the axles and cleaned the bearing surfaces, installed new grease zerts and applied some paint. It works great on my ' 54. You are right about unloading the weight box before unhooking. Ask me how I know. It could be used on a three point hitch tractor very easily.

Thanks for the feedback. The Seller's tractor had a 3-Pt hitch, but no drawbar. It was also a Massey Ferguson. Maybe it could be modified to work, but not sure about the easy part.
