Clutch Finger Adjustment

Postby pett3227b » Wed Oct 18, 2023 12:39 pm

Pretty simple question. I have found that spec for the clutch finger adjustment is 7/8 of an inch. Wondering if that is supposed to be the distance from the back of the clutch fingers to the flywheel or from the face of the clutch fingers to the flywheel?

Plenty of discussion here on the forum about that. Only place I’ve seen that said 7/8 was Steiner tractor. Consensus here is 1 1/8-1 1/4. Check out the how to section. There should be a post or two about adjusting fingers

7/8? you been watching one of Rachel's videos? Not a good practice. Use 1-1/8 to 1-1/4. See what happened to somebody else that used 7/8.

Start looking about the middle of the page and continue through the next 2. An illustration in that thread shows how/where to measure (face of fingers to next surface in, not the flywheel).

Hi,
They have said on here that the pressure plate might also be used on another brand of tractor, and the 7/8" finger height might be for that tractor.
If the fingers are too low, the throwout bearing holder, and the metal part of the bearing can hit the turning pressure plate.
If that happens there is a metal to metal sound.

Rachel's videos are good to get an overview of the job but the specs from the videos are not reliable.

I have also found spec recommendations from Steiner not to be reliable.

When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

I think you meant to say the specs "aren't" reliable.
