Is there a way to remove the rubber wire connection from the back of the headlight? I can’t seem to see a way to do it, and don’t want to damage it. I attached two pics to show the area of the light.
Thanks!
Scott

Re: A question about disassembling a cub headlight
They are equivalent to a rubber grommet. Remove/install is done as you would any similar grommet. I think it will come out easier going to the inside of the housing. Install from the inside. Your parts are probably hardened by age. They might not want to come out. If they are too hard, you may want to reconsider whether to remove them or not.

There is a way to soften them using wintergreen oil and alcohol. Not sure on the formula but it will soften the rubber in several hours. Maybe do a search on this sight to find more information on this procedure.

here is a post I did ~6 years ago viewtopic.php?f=1&t=96456&hilit=wintergreen+oil+round#p759511
It worked well. I did not find a replacement grommet at that time that I felt was close enough so had to try to save the one I had.

When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

Doesn’t look like this technique ever made it into the How-To forum. Maybe that can happen now.

Missed it the first go around. It is now in the How To forum. Thanks, Don!
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: A question about disassembling a cub headlight
Thanks all!
An UPDATE
Since my headlight rubber grommets weren’t totally hardened, and still had some flexibleness, I took a small flat head screwdriver and, slowly and gently, worked around the outer edge of the grommet, pushing the flared edge into the light body as Jim Becker suggested as far as direction to push the grommet… eventually the grommet came loose and popped into the light. Now I have to be careful re-installing it

I think I would still soften it a little for the reinstall. Can’t hurt.
