Seat adjustment - front to back?

Postby Dave Downs » Sun Nov 05, 2023 5:47 pm

I introduced my 22 year old niece to my Cub yesterday. For someone thats never driven anything but an automatic transmission (she mows the lawn with a zero turn) she really did well with her first experience with a clutch.

The only problem is that she is only 5’-3” and she has trouble putting the clutch all the way in.

I don’t see any way to adjust the seat forward.

Maybe putting blocks on the pedals is an option.

Anyone else have this problem?

If you have the pogo style seat you would have to make a bracket that you could drill some holes so to allow repositioning. If you have a deluxe seat you can reposition it a bit forward or rearward by adding some more holes to the support brackets and the seat frame. JMHO

If you have the old style seat pan, seat post can be moved forward until it almost touches the axle housing. Would require removing the tool box and removing seat post and moving it forward. That’s assuming that the seat is not already there

Hi,
You didn't say if the Cub has the seat with the spring, or the Deluxe seat.
If it has the seat with the spring, there is an adjustment under the tool box.
Below is a page from the 1955 Cub operator's manual, telling about adjusting the seat.
https://farmallcub.com/rudi_cub/www.cle ... e%2010.jpg

Sometimes the 2 bolts are rusted and tight, they may need heating to remove them.
You can look at the tube from behind the Cub, if it is almost against the right side extension, it is probably already in the forward position.
Sometimes the parts of the seat under the tool box are rusted lots, and should be replaced if rusted too much. You don't want the seat post breaking off from the base when using the Cub.

As Glen indicated, there are 2 seating positions for the spring/post seat. Access to the bolts is under the tool box.

If the seat is all the way forward you could make a plate with the base bolt pattern and make it long enough to bolt the seat forward on the plate.

That's the idea that I was attempting to describe. Leave the mounting post as is and relocate the seat pan forward. :hattip: :D
