Ready for Winter 2023-2024

Postby Peter Person » Fri Nov 24, 2023 5:59 pm

Thanksgiving morning tradition to get stuff moved around, put away, straightened up.
Got the basement stocked with enough wood for 3 weeks.
Aron got here a couple of hours early so we got the Cub upfitted with the plow blade and tire chains.
Only used the Cub 2 or 3 times last winter and the snowblower not at all. I wonder what we will see this winter????

I have 3 tractors with loaders, and a snow blower, so I don' bother installing the cub blade.

I won't have the snowplow on the Cub this winter, touch control needs rebuilding and I haven't had time to do it. I've got a 3/4 ton pickup truck with a blade I can use, I just enjoy plowing with the Cub

I'm lucky enough to own "twin" '48 Cubs. My original, that l've been operating since l was 10, has the '48 style original plowing/grading blade on it. The other newer '48 has my mower attached. So winter and summer Cubs :D . Switched them around a week ago. Here in Mi, you never know what you're going to get or when, but l'm ready.
Why is there never enough time to do the job right, but always enough time to do it over. :?:

I have a plow on the JD 3020, the JD B, the IH 504, the SC, the T035 and the Cub...what can I say...I like making and adapting the frames. But the last 2 winters we got one storm each so I am hoping my juju is still good.

I like the cub the best for plowing because it is easy to maneuver...my drive is a strange shape and has stuff on it. For the neighbors longer drives I use the bigger ones which can handle the big piles at the ends

This is my first winter with my Cub. I have a blade mounted on the front. I used it to push some debris and dirt around in the yard a few weeks ago. Maybe I'll get to use it to push some snow later this winter too.

You're on the wrong end of Lake Erie for "Lake Effect" snow, but maybe some of the Lake Michigan snow makes it your way..

Yeah we don't typically get much snow around here anymore. When I was a kid we got quite a bit. Seems like over the last 20-25 years though it's sort of died off. I have a snow shovel and snowblower, so I really don't "need" to use the Cub to plow any snow, it would just be a fun way to move the snow off the driveway haha!

I plowed with a cub for years and thought it was fun. I no longer think being outside clearing drive is fun and have been clearing the drive for several years using a blower. It is quite a bit faster. Used the blower yesterday. Bought a Husqvarna. Cadet was getting old and tired. Stills runs and I have a blower for that. Have a 404 with bucket if I thought it necessary but even thou it has wheel weights, loaded tires and weight bar on the three point still doesn't do much. Vern

When I was a kid, cleaning up snow was profitable. At my age now, it is not fun and definitely non-profit. For those that enjoy it… more power to you.

I used to enjoy plowing snow and have done several neighbors' driveway for years, No more, gonna plow ours and no others. This is my last winter for plowing snow and I may not complete the winter without letting someone else do it. Sometimes you just have to let common sense take over.

As for Ketchem's comment about lake effect snow. We didn't get much because we live so close to the lake, at a lower elevation, the snow blows over us a dumps further south at higher elevations. A frienf of mine, that lives southeast of me got 18".

The first storm is kind of fun...kind of. From then on it is a pain. I do some of the neighbors but don't take money because people start to get picky about how it is done. We had a few winters where the city plow made big piles at the end of drives and I will use the bucket on the 504 to open up and help others open up, but lately we only get 1 or 2 storms...mostly rain. I is the long island sound effect I guess.
