Hood Side Panel MTG Holes

The mounting holes for the side panels on my hood have been enlarged to suit 1/4"
Is there any easy fix to get back to the original size ?
I found some 10-24 nutserts that would do the job , but not sure what space is available on the backside of the hood as the nutserts are about 1/2" long

Are the captive nuts still welded to the hood?

I think so. From memory I think they were just drilled and tapped to 1/4"

I have used these style inserts on other applications - not on the cub, and they work well. The main difference between these and the welded nut is the insert has a flange and it raises the mounting surface a bit. It may change the lines of the sheet metal a little.

I would put a few washers under the dog leg and use the current setup and see if you are ok with the look before you drill and use the insets.

Several years ago, I painted a Cub that had been enlarged to 1/4”, I just said “good enough” and sent it home that way. Keep in mind, when nutserts are set, they do shorten a little. Nutserts were a wonderful invention!

This is what my hood looks like. It is a 48 Cub. The nuts on the inside simply provide female threads for attachment to the doglegs. I measured the distance from the hood to the fan cowl and it is 15/16". This distance was the same on both sides.

I agree with Gary. Use what fits. Visually, everyone but you will not see the difference.

May be hard to see in the pic, but yes, it is just a nut tack welded in place.
