I haven't been around here for a couple weeks. My PC had become so slow & unstable that, in frustration, I toted it to the repair shop for check-out, clean-up, or replacement, whichever seemed prudent. The shop I took it to has always been a reputable place, so I had no Qualms about trusting them. The tech there said he checked it out & said he found no real problems other than being hopelessly outdated. I knew that, but was hoping to stave off purchasing new for a little longer. He was out of stock on the machine that I chose, so I told him to order one & transfer my data to it.

We then left on a 7 day cruise, expecting the new PC to be ready to rock when we got back home. NOT! What I did find was a voice mail from some lady wanting to arrange for me to pick up my old PC, cause the shop had lost it's tech & decided to close the doors. When I asked about the new PC that I had paid a deposit on, they said "What new PC?" I got my old one back & convinced them to refund my deposit, after a fair amount of talking. I then drove 2 blocks to Staples & bought a new Dell.

I have the new machine up & running, but there is a lot set-up & software installation yet to be done. Anyway, I'm back

Gary:

Sorry to hear about your puter troubles. Small shops are having a hard time staying alive. I find it is getting harder to buy OEM parts these days. The Big Box stores are driving the little guys out.. more and more market share seems to be the driver with increased positive bottom lines as the ultimate goal. Pretty soon we will be seeing the old Sony vs JVC/Panasonic wars again... pretty sad. So much for custom puters. We will all have to have the same generic plain jane vanilla puters.

Oh well, progress or a version of it I guess.

Nice to see you back on line :!:

Hi Gary,

Marilyn and I are glad you and Regina are back. We hope you both enjoyed the cruise.

Your new computer will give you a better shot with your high speed connection.

Did either of you find any lanterns on the cruise?

Sorry, haven't had time to mess with the Cubota thing lately, been working hard to get my new tractor building up before winter hits. I installed the overhead door on the front yesterday, so the building is officially closed in for the winter. The back door opening is temporarily closed and will get an overhead door, as well, come spring. All the tractors, camper and several other items (including lanterns) are now safe from winters wrath.

Yes, we and our 6 friends enjoyed the cruise very much! (No George, no new lanterns) We cruised out of Miami on Carnival Valor, one of Carnival's largest ships. (22 bars on board) We visited Nassau, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. It's a tough call, as to which we liked most, but we saw a lot of pretty scenery, and yes, my wife took a lot of pictures. When I get a little more squared away with the new puter, I'll try to post a few. We even did an air boat tour of the Everglades when we got back to Miami, since we had a late flight back to Columbus.

While the trip from Columbus to Miami was uneventful, coming home was the "Trip from Hell" First of all, this was Sun. of Thanksgiving week-end, so the airport was packed. One couple had some difficulty getting through airport security. We then had to argue with some a**hole from American Airlines to get our rightful place on the plane. (overbooking should be illegal) We finally got all 8 of on though! I couldn't bear the thought of spending the night in Miami, just to go through the whole ordeal again on Monday! When we arrived at Columbus, most of our luggage had not. We had to wait in line again, to fill out reports. The good news is that they delivered our luggage, to our homes, the next day. American Airlines is on my S**t list!

Gary,

I think if you flew on any other airline, most of them would be on your s**t list, too. :(
