The flange has three bolt holes spaced around it. I hadn't thought of a universal before. Can you get a universal joint that matches the cub pto splines?

Actually, Daniel, there's a cub PTO shaft to standard PTO shaft adaptor out there. I've seen a few, although I don't have one.

Aside from making a pan for the gearbox, it seems it should work pretty well.

By the way, I have the pan for the gear box. It is off for the picture.

What is the size of the "input" shaft on that gearbox?

i assume the output is 1-3/8 6-spline.

The input shaft is 1.125" and approximately 6.75 " long to the end of splines. The splines fit into the clutch disc on the AC power unit. The output is a standard 1 3/8" PTO.

Better still!!

Now you simply need a universal end to go over that small input shaft.

I'm thinking cut the thing a lot shorter than it is, and cut a keyway in it, but others may have better ideas.

They tell me that JD dealers have a lot of silly little adaptors for shafts. You might want to try and find one to go from your input shaft size (as smooth, with a keyway) to standard PTO. They might have one.

How many splines on the input shaft?

Here's another idea-can the input shaft be reveresed in the housing, so both shafts come out the same side? If so, you might be able to mount the whole thing, and then use a belt between the Cub PTO and the input shaft.

Hub City Cub reduction boxes info.

Postby Steve K. CALIF » Fri Jan 06, 2006 1:22 pm

The Cub boxes from Hub City were based on the Model 22 parallel shaft drive. They are discontinued for some time now. The Model 22 is still available in different styles, but not with the Cub splined input or mounting provisions. Standard input shaft is 1.00"/round, output is 1.250" round. It may be possible to adapt a standard unit with home made mounts and pieces to handle spline issues in and out of the box. Ratios available are 1/1, 1.5/1, 2/1 and 2.53/1. Can be had in models with shafts on same side or opposite. Even with a hollow bore output.
The nature of the single reduction box makes it a "reverse" rotation. Output speed is dependant on actual tractor rpm and ratio, of course.
If interested, the information can be found at Hub City or in their Engineering Manual No. 5.
Don't know if this helps anyone, but it may be a lot easier than cobbing up something else. Regards, Steve
