1947 Farmall Cub
Added another cub today. It a 1947 w/o hydraulics, but has the belt pulley drive less pulley on the back. Came with a new head and gaskets also. Full set of weights and bad tires. Not sure if this is for parts or a fixer at this point.

Re: !947 Farmall Cub
Just from what I can see, and assuming you have all the parts, hopefully including the hood, it appears to be a good candidate for a fixer-upper.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
you are part of the problem!!!

Re: 1947 Farmall Cub
Checked the mag out and after touching up the points we have spark. I think I will look at the valves/valve seats next. The PO said when he got the tractor it had a little water in it and the engine was stuck, but freed up easy. Cylinders look OK so water doesn't appear to have caused much if any damage.

Rolled the engine over to check out valve's and found several are sticking open. Sprayed some ATF/acetone on them and will try working them tomorrow.

Re: 1947 Farmall Cub
Drained about a gallon of water out of the trans. Figured I better open it up and take a look. I was pleasantly surprised, no rust. Then moved on to a stuck right rear wheel. Found the brake band was really rusted which was causing the problem. Pulled the final drive to free it up and while it is off we will swap the parts into a different housing since this one has been broken and welded up.

Make sure the little weep hole in the center left side of you first photo is open. The bearing depends on that hole for lubrication.

Dug the old brake band out and now the axle turns freely. I'll add some pics of the broken casting.

Cleaned up the spare final drive housing and treated with Ospho. Ready to transfer internal parts.

Re: 1947 Farmall Cub
Hi,
I hope you are replacing the oil seals in the final drive, by the brake, and the seal in the transmission case.
TM Tractor has them and a new brake band with lining. Here are the listings below, you can see the parts there.
I'm in Wa. too.

Yep. new seals and I think we may have a good used brake band laying around.
